St. David’s Island, Bermuda is the center of the islands colorful seafaring history. Awesome waters will provide a plethora of wonderful seafood; you could eat off the sea and never go hungry. While on the island there are many things to see and do. You will certainly want to visit St. David’s lighthouse. Built in 1879 out of local limestone, to guide passing ships, it is still in working order. A definite must see!
For those of you who are the active type there are many outdoor activities that you will enjoy. There is no end to water sports such as kayaking, scuba diving and parasailing. There are beautiful golf courses for those of you that like to hit the greens. Visit the natural habitat and take a long hike, exploring the beautiful jungle and see the native animals.
For those of you that prefer the more relaxing side of the island, there is also plenty to do. With its rich cultural history, St. David’s provides plenty of historical viewing. You can visit the chapel of ease, the light house and Great Head Battery. At Great Head Battery, you will find restored gun emplacements. The location provides a splendid walking tour for the history buff. For those of you looking for the deeper meaning in life be sure to visit St. David’s Cathedral, a beautiful and serene sanctuary-a good place to reflect on the lasting history of the building.
Be sure to get some shopping in while you are there. The typical tourist things are available but be sure to visit the Steve Robinson Glass Gallery, a working fused-glass studio. Be sure to try the ice cream and bring home some chocolate from Chapel Chocolates. A tasty treat!
